How’d you like to learn how to create a page in WordPress? Or would you like to see the difference between a post and a page in WordPress?

It means, that you, my friend, you are exactly at the right “spot”. Stick with us, and you will find out more throughout this article.

Therefore, let`s see first what is a page in WordPress.

What is a page in WordPress?

A page in WordPress is for non-chronological content, let`s say pages like “About”, or “Contact” would be common examples. WordPress pages, besides posts, are the standard built-in post type that allows you to publish content on your blog.

How do you create a page in WordPress?

Fortunately, we already know how to create a post in WordPress (as we have seen in one of our articles), so creating WordPress pages is practically the same as creating posts. The only difference is visible on the right side of the screen. Where posts allow you to select categories and tags, pages give you the opportunity to arrange them in hierarchies, apply custom templates and reorder them as you wish.

So, to add and publish a new page, all we need to do is to:

  • Click on Pages =>Add new;
  • Enter title, content, and set a featured image (if the theme you are using supports it);
  • After you finished click the “Publish” button on the right side.

And that`s how you create a page in WordPress. Easy, right?

I once was engaged in a conversation about WordPress, and at one point somebody asked: “How many pages can you have on a WordPress site?”. I find it quite interesting, so…

How many pages can you have on a WordPress site?

The answer is simple, as many as you want. There is no limit from WordPress’s point of view. From your point of view, it depends upon the server space that you have. With each post or page, WordPress occupies more and more space on your server disk.

Technically, you can create unlimited posts or pages in WordPress. However, this would increase the size of your WordPress database, which would consequently increase the loading time.

That being said, all that’s left to see is the difference between a post and a page in WordPress.

What is the difference between a post and a page in WordPress?

As we saw above, pages are very similar to posts. They both have titles and content. WordPress Theme template files maintain a consistent look throughout your site. Pages, though, have several key distinctions that make them different from posts.

Some of the key differences between posts and pages are:

  • Posts are a timely content part of a series of posts in a blog. On the other hand, pages are a static one-off type of documents which are not tied to the blog’s reverse chronological order of content;
  • Pages can be hierarchical, which means a page can have sub-pages, for example, a parent page titled “About us” can have a sub-page called “Our team”. By using parent pages, you can organize your website and make it more attractive to both admins and users. We will cover the subject of parent pages in a later article. On the other hand, posts are not hierarchical;
  • By default posts in WordPress can be sorted into Categories and Tags. Pages do not have categories or tags;
  • Pages can utilize custom page templates. Posts can not utilize this feature by default in WordPress.
  • Posts are displayed in RSS feeds, while pages are excluded from feeds.
